We shifted to uk recently and im 11 weeks now. The system here is bit different from india so im confused how many scans they actually do here. Any mommas in uk who can share?
I panicked so much when I found out they only do 2 scans over there! In India, we are used to seeing the doctor and getting ultrasounds so often. But trust me, it is completely normal and they monitor you very well with other checkups. Don't worry, those 2 scans are highly detailed and sufficient.
Usually they offer only 2 routine scans on the NHS - the 12-week dating scan and the 20-week anomaly scan. But please discuss your medical history with your midwife or gynecologist there. If you have any complications or risk factors, they will definitely schedule more scans for your baby's safety.
Just 2 routine scans! Yes, you heard that right, they are super stingy compared to India where we get scanned practically every month. First one is at 12 weeks and second at 20 weeks. If you want to see your baby more often, you literally have to pay out of your pocket for private scans or just stare at your growing bump!
I had my baby in the UK and normally they offer two scans, one at 12 weeks and another at 20 weeks. If they feel there is any growth issue or if you have GD, they might add growth scans in the third trimester. Just trust your midwives, they are very experienced and will take good care of you.
It's just two scans routinely, at 12 and 20 weeks. Since NHS is very systematic, you won't get extra scans unless there's a medical reason. If you have a busy work schedule, plan these dates in advance as they don't reschedule easily.
In my experience living in the UK, I was only given two scans by the NHS. One was around 12 weeks to find out the due date, and the other was at 20 weeks to check everything is fine. I didn't have any complications, so they said two are more than enough for a normal pregnancy.
