How many ultrasound is necessary during pregnancy?
My doctor has already asked for a couple of scans and im just curious how many are usually needed through the whole pregnancy. Trying to mentally prepare and plan. What was the count in your case?
Typically 3 to 4 in a normal pregnancy. Don't go by a fixed number though, your doctor adds scans if they need to monitor something. Both my pregnancies were a little different in count. Just follow what your gynac schedules, they're not done randomly.
Most normal pregnancies have about 3 essential ones, so I budgeted for those plus maybe one extra. The dating, anomaly and growth scans are the must dos. If you're managing costs, ask your doctor which are essential vs optional so you plan, but dont skip the important ones to save money.
There isnt one fixed number, the commonly recommended set is around 3, but it depends on your individual pregnancy. High risk cases need more monitoring. The best answer is whatever your gynac schedules for you, they balance necessity with not over scanning.
My gynac said usually around 3 are standard, a dating scan early, the anomaly scan around 18-20 weeks, and a growth scan in the third trimester. Some pregnancies need a few more depending on the situation. So the exact number varies, your doctor decides based on how things are going.
