I'm curious about the typical antenatal schedule. How many ultrasound scans are generally recommended or done during an entire pregnancy? My doctor hasn't given me a full schedule yet.
Since my husband and I are hoping to start our family soon, I keep reading up on this. I think around 3 to 5 scans are typical in a normal pregnancy to monitor the baby's growth. It must be such a beautiful feeling to see the baby for the first time!
Looking back at my toddler's album, those scan photos are such precious memories! Normally, doctors do about 3 to 5 scans throughout a routine pregnancy—like the dating scan, NT scan, and anomaly scan. Try not to worry, each scan is just a lovely chance to see your baby's progress.
Haha, every time I go for a scan, my doctor tells me the baby's size is like a fruit or vegetable, which just triggers my food cravings even more! Usually, there are about 3 or 4 main scans. I always celebrate a good scan report with a nice bowl of my favorite ice cream afterward!
Expect about 4 standard scans if everything is normal: dating scan around 8 weeks, NT scan at 12 weeks, anomaly scan at 20 weeks, and a growth scan near the end. If there are any concerns, your doctor will add more. Just follow your gynac's schedule and don't overthink it.
Generally, a low-risk pregnancy requires at least 3 to 4 standard scans: dating, NT scan, anomaly scan, and a growth scan in the third trimester. However, the exact number depends entirely on your medical history and health. It is always best to let your gynecologist decide the scanning schedule for you.
I totally understand how eagerly you must be waiting for each scan just to catch a glimpse of your precious little one and hear their heartbeat. Usually, there are around 3 to 4 main scans to check if everything is perfect. Just take a deep breath and cherish those beautiful moments on the screen.
