How many ultrasound should be done during pregnancy?
I just found out I'm pregnant! I'm trying to understand the process. How many ultrasounds are typically recommended throughout the entire pregnancy journey here in India?
In an IVF pregnancy, we have way more scans in the first trimester for monitoring, which can be very stressful but is done for safety. Typically, for a natural pregnancy, 3 to 4 scans are standard. Please don't worry if your doctor asks for more, it's just to ensure your little miracle is growing perfectly.
For me, because of my gestational diabetes, the doctor ordered a few extra growth scans in the third trimester to monitor baby's weight and amniotic fluid. Normally, they do about 3 to 5 scans. Make sure you keep your diet clean and follow whatever number of scans your gynac suggests for safety.
Beta, aamtaur par toh doctor pure pregnancy mein kam se kam 3 ya 4 scan karte hain bache ki badhat dekhne ke liye. Ek shuruat mein hota hai, phir dusra bade wala scan hota hai paanchve mahine mein, aur aakhir mein ek growth scan hota hai. Baki toh jaise aapki doctor kahe waise hi karna.
Looking at those ultrasound prints still makes me teary-eyed! Usually, doctors do about 4 scans throughout the nine months. Every scan is a beautiful milestone where you get to hear your baby's heartbeat, so just cherish those moments and trust your healthcare team.
From a practical standpoint, a standard uncomplicated pregnancy requires about 3 to 4 major scans: dating scan, NT scan, anomaly scan, and a growth scan. If there are any high-risk factors like high BP or diabetes, the doctor will definitely ask for more. Just follow your gynac's schedule, ultrasounds are completely safe for the baby.
In my case, I had a very smooth pregnancy and had exactly 4 scans, including the early viability scan and the anomaly scan. Everything was completely normal, and it led to a beautiful normal delivery! Trust your doctor, they only order scans when they need to check the baby's growth.
I just delivered last month, and I had around 5 ultrasounds in total. The most important ones were the 5th-month anomaly scan and the 9th-month growth scan. Don't hesitate to get them done, it gives so much peace of mind to see the baby on screen!
