Just got my positive last week and started reading about folic acid everywhere. Im a bit confused about the amount, dont want to take too much or too little. Will check with doc but curious what dose you all were put on.
Both times my doctor started me on folic acid early in first trimester. Dont buy random ones from chemist, take what your doctor prescribes because dose can differ. Important in early weeks specially.
I started taking it the moment we decided to try, doctor said start before pregnancy itself for baby brain and spine development. She gave me a specific one. Just ask your gynac the right dose for you.
My gynac put me on folic acid even before conceiving, the usual is 400mcg before and early pregnancy. But the exact dose your doctor decides based on you. Some women with certain history need more, so dont self decide.
There is a standard recommended amount for early pregnancy but honestly the safest is to take exactly what your gynac gives. It really matters in the first trimester for the baby. So just follow your prescription regularly.
