we are trying to conceive and im tracking my ovulation days. just curious how long the whole fertilization actually takes after, like does it happen same day or takes time? thoda confused about the timing.
My doctor explained fertilization can happen within hours of the sperm reaching the egg, but sperm can survive up to 5 days waiting for ovulation. So conception is possible from sex a few days before ovulation. Implantation then takes about a week after that.
I read the same while planning, that sperm can live a few days inside, which is why the fertile window is several days. It actually made timing less stressful for us. Such an interesting process honestly.
Fertilization itself is fairly quick once they meet, but the whole process from sex to a positive test takes a couple of weeks. Thats why testing too soon gives false negatives. Patience is key in the two week wait.
