Everyone in my house panicked when i picked up a papaya at the market yesterday. My MIL says its very harmful but nobody can tell me why exactly. Can someone explain what it actually does?
The main thing is RAW green papaya is the one to avoid, it has enzymes that arent considered safe in pregnancy. Ripe one in small quantity is generally fine. I just skipped it fully both times to not stress, easy decision honestly.
Honestly I was so worried about this whole papaya thing that I just avoided it completely the whole 9 months, easier for my peace of mind. If u already ate a little ripe one dont panic, just dont have raw papaya and ask ur doctor if unsure.
Beta in our ghar we always avoid raw or kaccha papaya during pregnancy, elders say it can cause heat and contractions. Ripe pakka papaya in small amount is usually considered ok, but honestly just confirm with ur doctor to be safe.
My amma also told me to stay away from unripe papaya. The fully ripe sweet one she said is okay in moderation. But since people have different views, I asked my gynac and she said avoid raw, ripe occasionally is fine. Best to ask yours too.
