My gynac put me on progesterone support after my scan and i didnt really ask much in the moment. Now im curious what it actually does for the pregnancy. if someone understands it simply pls explain.
My doctor explained progesterone is the hormone that keeps the pregnancy going, it thickens the uterus lining so the baby stays put. It also relaxes the muscles, which is why we get more gas and constipation honestly. Some women on IVF or with low levels get progesterone support, but that is doctor decided.
With my PCOS background progesterone came up a lot in my treatment. From what I understood it helps maintain the uterine lining in early pregnancy. I wouldnt want to give you exact medical details though, your doctor knows your reports and can explain it properly.
In simple terms it is the hormone that supports the pregnancy and stops early contractions. The rising levels also cause some of those annoying symptoms like sleepiness and bloating. For anything about your specific levels, your gynac is the right person to explain.
During my IVF journey progesterone was a big part, I took the support they prescribed to help hold the pregnancy. It basically keeps the lining ready and stable for the baby. If you are asking because of low levels, please let your fertility doctor guide you, every case is so personal.
