How the pregnancy week is calculated?

So my doctor told me im 8 weeks but my last period was different in my head, totally confused yaar. Does it count from period date or from when we actually conceive? someone pls explain in simple way.

I just put my last period date in a tracker app and it counted the weeks for me. Super easy. Just confirm the date with ur first scan because the app is only an estimate.

My doc explained it counts from the first day of ur last period, not from conception. So u r already counted 2 weeks pregnant before u even conceived, sounds odd but thats the standard. The dating scan then fine tunes it.
