We are starting our ivf cycle next month and somewhere i read ectopic can still happen even with ivf, which honestly scared me. After everything we have been through i just want this to go right. Is there anything one can do to lower that risk?
Ectopic can sadly still happen even with IVF, so the key is early detection not really prevention. If you ever get sharp one sided pain, shoulder pain or spotting after transfer, call your doctor immediately. Please dont wait it out, mine was caught early because i rushed in.
My RE told me they reduce the chance by transferring usually a single embryo and doing early monitoring scans. They also check tube health beforehand. So choosing a careful clinic and following the scan schedule is the practical thing you can do. Ask your doctor what protocol they follow.
I went through IVF and i had the same fear. Truth is you cant fully control it, but a good clinic monitors you closely with early scans and beta hcg to catch it fast. Stay in touch with your fertility team and go for every early checkup, that was my biggest reassurance.
I understand the worry beta. The honest answer is its mostly about early detection, your clinic will watch you carefully in the first weeks. Just dont skip any of those early appointments and report any unusual pain. You are doing the right thing by being aware.
I dont want to sound like an expert here, but from what my doctor said theres no guaranteed way to avoid it, only careful monitoring. Going in early for the hcg tracking and first scan really matters. Please follow your clinics advice closely.
