My sugar came slightly high in the last test so gynac told me to cut down. Problem is i have such bad sweet cravings these days, esp after lunch i just want something mishti. How did u all manage without going crazy? any healthy swaps that actually worked?
My amma always said replace sweet cravings with a small piece of jaggery or a date instead of sugar, and it did help me feel less deprived. But she also told me to listen to my doctor first. Small portions, dont fully starve yourself yaar, that backfires.
Honestly the hidden sugar is the real problem. Biscuits, ketchup, those healthy looking granola bars, all loaded. Read the label na. I switched chai to less sugar slowly over weeks so my tongue adjusted, that trick actually worked for me both pregnancies.
I had GD in my pregnancy so this was my whole life. What helped me most was cutting the obvious stuff first, no soft drinks, no mithai, no packed juices. Fruit I still ate but whole fruit not juice, and only after a meal not empty stomach. Pls get your sugar tested though, dont just self manage.
Realistically office snacks are the trap. I started carrying roasted chana and some nuts in my bag so I dont reach for the vending machine sweets when I get hungry at 4pm. Prep on sunday saved me honestly.
A short walk after dinner really helped me not crave sweets at night. My gynac okayed walking for me so I did 15 min daily. When sugar craving hits I drink water first, sometimes its just thirst pretending to be a craving.
Dont go fully no sugar and stress yourself out, that part is important. I kept a little dark chocolate for bad days. The goal is less sugar not zero sugar unless your doc said otherwise.
