My hemoglobin came low in the recent blood test and doctor said im a bit anemic. I keep seeing this iron deficit calculation thing online and got curious how its actually worked out. Can someone explain how they figure out how much iron i need?
Honestly this isnt something to calculate at home. My doctor checked my hemoglobin and ferritin through blood tests and decided the iron requirement from there. There's a proper formula doctors use based on weight and Hb. Better to let them do it.
Please dont try to work this out yourself, iron dosing has to be precise. I was anemic and my gynac calculated it from my reports and weight. Too much or too little both cause problems, so leave it to the doctor.
It's based on your hemoglobin level and body weight, there's a standard calculation the doctors use. You really just need the blood test done, and they handle the math and the dose. Don't go by online calculators.
The deficit is figured out from your Hb and ferritin values, not something to estimate casually. Get the blood work and your gynac will tell you exactly how much iron you need, tablets or otherwise. That's the safe route.
Get a CBC and ferritin done, that's the starting point. The doctor uses your hemoglobin and weight to decide the iron needed. I was low both times and they adjusted my dose accordingly. Don't self calculate this one.
