How to check sugar level during pregnancy at home?
My doctor wants me to keep an eye on my sugar since it was borderline. Thinking of getting a glucometer for ghar pe but not sure how to use it properly or when to check. Anyone who did home monitoring pls guide.
I had gestational diabetes so I used a glucometer at home daily. My doctor told me exactly when to check, fasting in the morning and then about 1-2 hours after meals, and what numbers to aim for. Please get those target ranges from your own gynac, dont go by general charts.
With my PCOS background my doctor was extra watchful about sugar, so I did home checks too. I wont give you target numbers as everyone's are different, please ask your gynac for yours. The glucometer itself is simple to use once shown.
A glucometer made it easy to track without running to a lab every time. I kept a small notebook of fasting and post meal readings to show the doctor. Just make sure your strips arent expired, that messes up readings.
A home glucometer with the finger prick strips is what most use. My doctor showed me the technique and noted down the readings each visit. She said the home check is helpful but the proper diagnosis still comes from the lab GTT test.
A basic glucometer is a one time buy and saves repeated lab trips, just the strips are the ongoing cost. Ask your doctor which checks they actually want so you dont waste strips testing randomly. Keeps it cheaper and useful.
