Im in my 7th month and reading a lot about prepping for breastfeeding. Some people say to clean and prep the nipples already but i dont know the right way to do it without overdoing. What did u all do?
My mother told me just warm water and a little oil to keep them soft, no fancy products. That advice worked for me. If you notice cracks or pain though, mention to your doctor.
Don't scrub or use harsh soap there. Gentle water clean during shower, pat dry. Later trimesters there can be some dried discharge, just wipe softly with water. Over cleaning irritates the skin.
Just plain warm water while bathing is enough, no need for soap directly on nipples, it dries them out. I kept mine moisturised with a little coconut oil and that prepared them nicely for feeding later.
I felt unsure about this too as a first timer. My doc said simple water is fine, avoid soap and don't rub hard. I used to gently moisturise to avoid dryness and it really helped.
