How to deal with gestational diabetes during pregnancy?
My gtt came back high and i've been told its gestational diabetes. Im 27 weeks and honestly bit stressed about diet and all. Mommies who went through this, how did u manage day to day?
I had GD in my last pregnancy. What helped me was small frequent meals, cutting rice/sugar portions, more protein and veggies, and a short walk after meals. I checked my sugar at home as my doctor told and shared the readings. Dont panic, with proper diet most of us manage it really well.
With a job I had to plan ahead, I kept nuts and roasted chana at my desk so I never reached for biscuits. Walk 10 min after lunch even in the office corridor, it really drops the post meal sugar. Meal prep on weekend saved me honestly.
Please take GD seriously and dont skip the monitoring, uncontrolled sugar can affect baby's size and delivery. Mine needed a little extra care but staying on top of diet and doctor visits kept it safe. Whatever u do, run ur diet plan by ur gynac, not random internet diets.
Amma kept telling me to eat more, but with GD I had to politely refuse the extra rice and sweets. I trusted my doctor's chart over family pressure and it was fine. Be gentle but firm about ur diet, family will understand.
First, dont be scared, so many of us go through GD and have perfectly healthy babies. Eat on time, avoid sweets and fruit juices, walk daily, and follow ur doctor. You've got this, just take it one day at a time.
My gynac put me on a diet chart first and a glucometer to track fasting and post-meal sugars. She said most women control it with food and walking, only some need medication. Follow ur doctor's plan strictly and keep ur appointments, GD is very manageable when monitored.
The home glucometer is a good buy, strips arent too costly and it saves you running for tests daily. Simple ghar ka khana with less rice and more dal-sabzi worked for me, no need for fancy diet foods. Just keep ur follow up scans as the doctor says.
