Home test showed faint line and my doc asked me to get a blood test to confirm. I don't really understand what they check for in the blood. Can someone explain how it works? Going for it tomorrow morning.
The blood test checks for a hormone called beta hCG which rises when you're pregnant. Just go to any lab, they take a small blood sample, no fasting needed. It's more sensitive than urine kits and can confirm even very early.
Simple, you go to a lab and ask for a beta hCG blood test. They draw blood and the report tells you if you're pregnant, even before a urine kit would. I did this both times to be 100% sure.
My gynac sent me for a beta hCG blood test. She explained the number itself shows pregnancy, and repeating it after 48 hours and seeing it roughly double tells them the pregnancy is progressing well. Very reliable, much earlier than home tests.
I asked the same thing! Got the beta hCG done at a lab after a faint kit line, and it confirmed it clearly. No prep needed, just a small blood draw. Way more reassuring than the strip.
