Read about this somewhere and now im a bit anxious before my anomaly scan next week. I want to understand which test or scan picks this up so i can ask my gynac properly. Anyone know?
My gynac told me it is usually picked up through the anomaly scan around 18 to 20 weeks, and blood markers can also give a hint. She also stressed taking folic acid before and in early pregnancy to lower the risk. Definitely discuss the scans with your doctor.
At my hospital they did a detailed anomaly scan and explained everything clearly when I asked. Best to ask your doctor directly which scans and tests they recommend for you and at what week. They guided me step by step.
We were anxious about this too. Our doctor explained the detailed level 2 scan around the second trimester checks for it. Try not to worry too much in advance, the scans are there exactly to catch these things and reassure you.
Beta, the doctors check for this in the routine scans, so attend all your appointments. Take your folic acid as prescribed and let the experts do the detecting. Worrying alone won't help, but regular checkups will.
The anomaly ultrasound is the main way, and folic acid early on is key prevention. Don't try to judge anything yourself from symptoms, this really needs the doctor and proper scans. Just keep your appointments regular.
I used to worry about every possible thing during pregnancy honestly. What calmed me was just trusting the scans and asking my doctor all my questions. The anomaly scan is made for this, so please don't lose sleep before it.
