Im 16 weeks and want to start some gentle yoga to stay active and calm. But im a complete beginner and a little scared of doing wrong poses. How did u all start, any safe way for someone whos new to it?
I joined a prenatal yoga class only after my gynac said it was okay for me. Regular yoga and pregnancy yoga are quite different, so please don't just follow random youtube videos. A trained prenatal instructor makes a big difference.
Stick to safe basics, breathing, gentle stretches, cat-cow type movements. Avoid lying flat on back later on and no deep twists or pressure on belly. If anything feels uncomfortable, just stop, simple as that.
I used a prenatal yoga app that had trimester wise sessions, that helped me a lot. It avoided risky poses automatically which felt safe. Still, run it by your doc first, especially if you have any complications.
My amma kept saying gentle breathing and light movements only, and she was right. I did simple stretches and pranayam which kept me calm. But I always checked with my doctor before adding anything new.
For me yoga was more about staying calm and breathing peacefully than fitness. It really helped my mind during those nervous days. Just keep it gentle and stay positive, baby feels your calm too.
