How to get rid of heart palpitations during pregnancy?
Sometimes my heart suddenly starts racing for no reason, even when I'm just sitting. I'm 28 weeks. It feels a bit scary in the moment. I'll bring it up with my gynac at the next visit but wanted to know if others felt this too and what helped.
Try to slow down when it happens, sit, breathe deep and have some water. Avoid skipping meals and too much caffeine. But do tell your doctor so they can make sure everything's okay, no need to suffer in silence.
Palpitations can be common in pregnancy because of extra blood volume, but please dont ignore them. With me the doctor checked my hemoglobin and thyroid to rule out causes. If they come with breathlessness, chest pain or dizziness, call your doctor right away.
My doctor explained that the heart pumps more blood in pregnancy so occasional palpitations are often normal. She still tested for anemia and thyroid since those can trigger it. Cutting down on too much tea/coffee and resting helped me. Always flag the strong or frequent ones.
Mine used to freak me out, I'd convince myself something was wrong. Turned out it was mostly anxiety plus low iron. Getting checked gave me huge relief, so please go get the tests done instead of worrying like I did.
I got these flutters too, mostly when I was tired or hadnt eaten. Sitting down, sipping water and slow breathing settled it for me. But mention it to your gynac at next visit so they can check your iron levels, sometimes anemia causes it.
I had thyroid issues and palpitations were one of my signs, so I really suggest getting your thyroid and iron checked. Once mine was managed the fluttering reduced a lot. Keep up regular follow ups with your doctor for this.
