My feet and ankles have started swelling up a lot, by evening they feel so heavy and tight. Im in my 8th month. Will mention to doc on next visit but till then what can i do at ghar? pls share.
When my feet started swelling in the 8th month, my mother used to gently massage them with lukewarm mustard oil from bottom to top. It improved circulation so much, and then my father would make sure I kept my feet up on a stool.
I used to panic seeing my feet look like pillows and got so anxious that something was wrong. But keeping my feet elevated on two pillows while resting and reducing salt in my food really helped. Just monitor it and let your doctor know if it increases suddenly.
I know exactly how uncomfortable and heavy those swollen feet feel, it is so draining. Try soaking them in warm water with a little salt for 15 minutes, it really relaxes the muscles and brings down the puffiness.
I felt so sad when none of my footwear would fit my swollen feet anymore! What worked best for me was keeping my legs elevated whenever I sat down and drinking a lot of water throughout the day to flush out the fluids. Hang in there, it goes away right after delivery!
Swelling is quite common, but since I had thyroid and BP fluctuations, my doctor always watched it closely. Make sure you get your BP checked regularly at your clinic, because sudden swelling can sometimes be a sign of high blood pressure.
Mild swelling is normal due to increased blood volume, but if you notice sudden, severe swelling in your feet or face, please call your gynac immediately to check your BP. For normal swelling, avoid standing for long hours and keep your feet elevated.
