I keep hearing about baby size in scans but dont really get how they measure it. Im 20 weeks and have my anomaly scan coming up. How do they actually figure out the size?
Elders at home would feel the tummy and guess, but really only the ultrasound gives proper size and weight. My gynac measured my belly each visit too as a rough check. For accurate numbers, just rely on the scans.
Its done through ultrasound, the doctor measures things like head, abdomen and thigh bone and the machine estimates baby's weight and size. My gynac explained early on they measure crown to rump length, later they use those other measurements. You cant really measure it at home, the scan does it.
Only the ultrasound can do this properly. At each scan the sonologist measures the baby and gives an estimated weight and growth percentile. The fundal height the doctor checks by hand also gives a rough idea but the scan is the real measure.
My app gave cute fruit comparisons each week haha, but actual measuring happens at the scan. They note BPD, abdominal circumference, femur length etc and calculate size. Fun to track on the app but trust the scan numbers from ur doctor.
I keep getting curious about baby size between scans too. From what I learnt only the ultrasound measures it accurately. Did others also feel impatient waiting for the next scan to know? The growth scans are the way to actually check.
