My sisters kid just got chickenpox and we live in the same house, im 4 months pregnant and really worried about catching it. I never had it as a child either. What precautions should i be taking?
Main thing is avoid contact with anyone who has chickenpox, especially if you never had it or the vaccine. My doctor said if you've had it before you usually have immunity. If you do get exposed, call your gynac soon, they can advise what to do.
Please take this seriously, chickenpox in pregnancy can be risky. Stay away from infected people and if you think you've been exposed, dont wait, contact your doctor immediately. They can check your immunity and guide you.
The vaccine isn't given during pregnancy, so prevention is mostly avoiding exposure. If someone in the house gets it, tell your doctor right away. Better to let the gynac decide the next step than worry alone.
Best prevention is just keeping distance from anyone with it, and kids with it too. Wash hands well. If you're not sure whether you've had it, ask your gynac to check, they did a blood test for me.
