Someone in my family had a baby born with clubfoot and ever since I heard that im a bit anxious about it for my own baby. Im 4 months along. Is there anything we can actually do during pregnancy to lower the chance? just want to understand it better.
My doctor explained clubfoot isnt something you cause or prevent by yourself, it is often picked up on the 20 week scan. She said folic acid and avoiding smoking and alcohol help overall fetal development. The good news is it is very correctable with treatment after birth.
Beta please dont blame yourself or worry too much about this. It is not in your control and even if it happens, doctors treat it very successfully these days. Just take your folic acid, attend your scans and stay calm.
Clubfoot is mostly genetic or developmental and you cant really prevent it, but good prenatal care lowers some risks. Taking folic acid, avoiding smoking and going for your scans is the best you can do. Your doctor can detect it on the anomaly scan and it is treatable after birth.
