How to prevent heartburn at night during pregnancy?
Third trimester and the burning at night is just too much yaar, I literally cant lie down properly. By the time I sleep its already 2am. How do you all manage it, koi tips?
Welcome to the club, my nights are currently spent sitting upright in bed like a statue! The baby is pushing my stomach up into my throat I swear. Sleeping on my left side and chewing some sugar-free gum after meals is the only way I'm surviving this.
My gynac explained that the pregnancy hormone progesterone relaxes the stomach valve, causing acid to splash up. She advised me to eat dinner at least 2 hours before sleeping and keep my head elevated with two pillows. Also, avoid spicy food in the evening because it makes it much worse.
Heartburn at night used to make me so anxious, I couldn't sleep thinking something was wrong with my digestion! I even stopped eating dinner out of fear. But keeping a food journal and tracking what triggered the acid helped me feel more in control.
My saas told me to chew on some fennel seeds (saunf) after dinner, and honestly, it worked like magic for me! She also made sure my evening meals were very light, like khichdi or daliya. Joint family hacks are sometimes the best, no?
When I was staying at mummy's house, she used to give me a small cup of cold milk right before bed. It was so soothing for my throat and chest. Also, try not to lie down flat immediately after eating, sit with family for a bit.
