There is a history of sickle cell in my husbands side of the family and now that im pregnant im a little worried about passing it on. we have our next appointment soon. has anyone gone through testing for this, what all did they check?
From what my doctor explained, sickle cell is genetic so it cant really be prevented, but testing helps. They suggested both partners get tested before or early in pregnancy to know the risk. Please talk to your gynac about a proper screening.
Its not something diet or home care can change, its in the genes. The best step is screening for you and your partner. Your gynac will refer you to the right test.
This is something only a doctor can guide on properly, please dont rely on general tips. There are specific blood tests for it. Early counselling makes a big difference, so see a specialist soon.
