Got my first set of blood reports back and theres so many numbers and short forms, i dont understand half of it. My appointment with doc is only next week and i cant stop staring at the values. How do u all make sense of these?
I used to stare at my reports getting anxious over every value. Anyone else? Finally i stopped and just asked my doctor to explain, felt so much calmer. Don't do the google thing, it spirals.
Main thing on a pregnancy blood report is the hcg value, higher than the non pregnant cutoff means positive. Rest like the doubling trend, your doctor interprets. Don't go googling each number, you'll just scare yourself.
Please get the report explained by your doctor rather than reading alone. In my case the numbers needed careful tracking and only the doctor could tell what was normal for my situation. Reports out of context cause unnecessary panic.
For the beta hcg test, a value above the lab's pregnant range means positive, and the number gives a rough idea of how far along. My doc said one reading isn't enough, they repeat after 48 hrs to see if it's roughly doubling, that's the important part.
Honestly reports have ranges that differ by lab, so don't try to fully decode it yourself. Show it to your gynac, they read it in context of your dates and symptoms. The number alone can be misleading.
