Im about 18 weeks and sometimes I feel a tiny flutter, but cant tell if its the baby or just gas honestly. First pregnancy so I have no idea what to expect. How did u realise it was actual movement?
Baby movements usually start subtly, around 18-24 weeks. If you're unsure or not feeling anything by week 24, please check with your gynac. Any significant decrease in movements at any stage should always prompt an immediate call to your doctor, just to be safe.
Many pregnancy apps have good info on this! They usually tell you when to expect first movements and how to do kick counts later on. Initially it's subtle, so keep a mental note of any new sensations. Around 28 weeks, you can start doing daily kick counts as your gynac will advise you.
Don't stress if you're not feeling strong movements yet, especially if it's your first pregnancy. It starts really soft, like a gentle flutter or bubbling, usually after 18 weeks. Just try to relax in a quiet place, maybe after eating, and really pay attention to your body. Soon you'll know your baby's rhythm.
Initially, baby movements are very light, often described as butterflies or a 'fish swimming' feeling. This is called 'quickening' and typically happens for first-time moms around 20-22 weeks, earlier for second-time moms. As baby grows, these sensations will get stronger, turning into actual kicks, punches, and rolls. Pay attention after meals or when you're resting, as babies are often more active then.
Initially, it feels like tiny flutters, almost like gas bubbles, around 18-22 weeks. Don't expect strong kicks right away. As weeks pass, they become more distinct, like gentle pushes or rolls. Later in the third trimester, you'll feel proper kicks and jabs, sometimes even see your belly move!
I'm in my 20th week now, and sometimes I feel little twitches, almost like popcorn popping! Is that what you mean by flutters? It's so exciting but also confusing to know if it's really the baby or just gas. How do you tell the difference?
