How to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome during pregnancy?
My wrists and fingers have started going numb and tingly especially at night, doc said its because of pregnancy swelling. Its really annoying when i wake up. What did u all do to get some relief?
This is quite common in pregnancy dear, the swelling presses on the nerves. Rest ur hands, dont overdo gripping and try keeping them elevated when u lie down. If the numbness is constant or painful, do get it checked, dont just bear it quietly.
My gynac explained its because of fluid retention pressing on the nerve in pregnancy. She suggested keeping the hand slightly raised, gentle wrist exercises and a splint at night. She said most of it eases after baby comes. Pls ask ur doctor before any painkiller though.
Typing all day made mine worse honestly. What helped was taking small breaks, shaking my hands out and not sleeping on my wrist. A wrist support from the pharmacy was cheap and useful. But do mention it to ur doctor at the next visit.
My physio gave me some light wrist and finger stretches which actually reduced the tingling. Only do them if ur doctor is ok with it. Avoiding too much salt also helped my swelling come down a bit.
I got this badly in my last trimester, my fingers used to go numb at night. My doctor told me its from the swelling and gave me a wrist splint to wear while sleeping, that helped a lot. Mostly it went away on its own after delivery, so dont worry too much.
