I am pregnant again and still breastfeeding my toddler at night. I feel tired and confused whether to stop suddenly or slowly. Has anyone weaned after conceiving?
First, do tell your gynac you're nursing while pregnant, she'll guide if it needs to stop or can continue. To wean, go slow, drop feeds gradually, distract the toddler with snacks and cuddles instead.
I weaned my older one slowly after conceiving the second, doing it gradually was much easier on both of us and on my body. Cut one feed at a time over a few weeks rather than stopping suddenly.
My MIL kept telling me to stop feeding once I conceived. I asked my doctor first and she said taper it slowly. Slowly reducing worked better than stopping at once, the little one adjusted in some weeks.
Amma suggested gradual weaning, more meals and water for the older child, and it worked gently. But do confirm with your doctor whether u need to stop, since it depends on your pregnancy specifically.
Looking back, the slow approach was so much kinder. I shifted nursing times to meals and offered comfort other ways. Took maybe a month but no drama. Whatever u do, check with your gynac first ok.
