We are planning to start trying in a couple of months and i read folic acid should begin before itself. Not sure when exactly to start or how to take it though. Anyone who did this before conceiving, pls share how u did it.
I set a daily phone reminder so I never miss my folic acid, that habit really helped. Took it with breakfast usually. The apps even remind you, makes it easy honestly.
With my PCOS the doctor adjusted my dose, so please don't just copy what others take. Folic acid before conceiving is great advice, but the exact amount should come from your gynac. Better to be sure than guess.
It's lovely that you are planning ahead, that shows you are already taking good care. Just take it daily as the doctor says and don't stress about timing too much. With water and a routine, you'll never forget it.
I am in the planning stage too and asked my doctor exactly this. She started me on a daily folic acid tablet and said take it around the same time each day with water. So happy this question came up, very useful.
My doctor told me to start folic acid at least 2-3 months before trying, taken once daily. She said it helps the baby's brain and spine development in those very early weeks. Best to confirm the dose with your own gynac though, as it can vary.
