How to talk with doctor about pregnancy in english?
My new gynac speaks mostly in english and i get nervous, end up forgetting half the things i wanted to ask. Honestly my english is ok but in front of doc i blank out. Any tips on how to manage these conversations?
Honestly, it's not a big deal. Just speak naturally. If you have specific questions, write them down before your appointment so you don't forget. Don't worry about perfect grammar. They understand key terms like 'nausea,' 'cramps,' 'baby movement.' Just be clear about what you're feeling or asking.
Arre, uski chinta mat karo! Doctors bahut achhe hote hain. Jo bhi mann mein aaye, seedhe poochho. English mein thoda aage-peeche bhi ho gaya toh unko samajh aa jayega. Bas apni problem sahi se bata dena. They'll guide you, don't worry about the language much.
Don't worry at all! Most doctors in India, especially gynacs, are very used to explaining things in English. Just be direct. You can start by saying 'Doctor, I have a few questions about my pregnancy.' List down your concerns beforehand. Use simple words. If you don't understand something, politely ask them to explain again or simplify it. They are there to help you!
Beta, doctors are used to talking to all kinds of people. Just speak from your heart. Even if your English is not perfect, they will understand. You can tell them 'Doctor, mujhe yeh takleef ho rahi hai' and then try to explain in simple English. Don't be shy. Health is important.
Haha, don't worry, your gynac probably hears all sorts of English, broken and otherwise! Just tell them what's up. 'Doc, my back hurts like I wrestled a buffalo!' or 'Baby's doing a Bollywood dance in there!' They'll get the gist. Key is to communicate your concerns, not to give a Shakespearean monologue! 😉
