With my irregular PCOS cycles the period based date wasnt reliable, so the scan dating was important for me. Dont stress if the dates shift a little after the scan. Let the doctor work it out for your case.
I just entered my last period date into a pregnancy app and it calculated the due date instantly. It is roughly 40 weeks from the first day of your last period. The dating scan later fine tuned it for me.
My gynac counted from the first day of my last menstrual period and added around 40 weeks. She said the early ultrasound gives the most accurate due date though, especially if your cycles are irregular. So the scan is the real confirmation.
