Im 13 weeks and finally ready to tell my manager but I have no idea how to word the email. Want it to sound professional but also mention I'll need leave later. If anyone has done this pls share how you put it.
Keep it short and professional, share your due date, your planned leave dates and that you will ensure a smooth handover. I told my boss in person first, then followed up with a written email for records. HR usually has a maternity policy, mention you will coordinate with them.
I kept mine warm but factual, thanked them for support and outlined how I would manage work till my leave. Loop in HR for the formal maternity process. Honestly a clear, calm tone makes the whole thing easy.
Just be straightforward. State you are expecting, give the rough timeline, and say you want to discuss leave and transition. No need to over explain or apologise, it is your right.
