It can be, mild lower back ache is common early due to hormones. But back pain happens for many reasons too. If your period is also late, just take a test to be sure.
I panicked over my early back pain thinking something was wrong, but it was just a normal early symptom. As long as it is mild it is usually fine. If it gets severe, then check with the doctor.
