We went out for dinner and i almost ordered calamari then stopped myself. I love seafood but now 2nd trimester im confused about which ones are ok. Did anyone have squid/calamari while pregnant?
Calamari (squid) is generally considered ok if it's fully cooked, it's low in mercury actually. The main thing is it should be properly cooked through, no raw or half done seafood. I'd still run it by your gynac if you eat it often.
I'd be a little careful with any seafood honestly. Make sure it's cooked completely and from a trusted place, food poisoning in pregnancy is no joke. Better to ask your doctor especially if you have any allergy history.
My doctor told me squid and prawns are fine in pregnancy as long as fully cooked, since they're low mercury. The fish to avoid are big ones like shark or king mackerel. So calamari is on the safer list, just no raw or undercooked.
Ugh I love calamari, missed it so much when pregnant lol. From what I read, well cooked squid is fine and not high mercury. Just skip the deep fried oily restaurant version too much, that gave me bad acidity.
