I love cheese and put it in almost everything, but read somewhere that some cheeses arent safe in pregnancy. Now im not sure which ones are fine. Can someone clear this up pls?
As a cheese lover this question made me happy haha. Good news is most cheese is fine, just dont go for the fancy soft unpasteurised stuff. I happily ate grilled cheese and paneer all along, just kept the portions reasonable since it's heavy.
Cheese itself is fine if pasteurised, that part is safe. One thing from my side, since I had gestational diabetes I had to watch the quantity and what I paired it with. So enjoy it but in moderation, especially if your sugar is being monitored.
Cheese is fine, just pick the pasteurised hard or processed types, which is basically what we get in India anyway. The ones to avoid are soft unpasteurised cheeses like some imported brie or blue cheese. Regular cheese, paneer, amul slices, all good and good for calcium.
We mostly eat paneer at home and it's perfectly fine in pregnancy, good for the bones too. Just make sure it's fresh and from pasteurised milk. My family kept feeding me paneer dishes and my doctor was happy with it as a protein.
My gynac said cheese is actually a nice calcium and protein source, the only rule is pasteurised. She told me to skip mould ripened soft cheeses and anything raw milk. Paneer and the common cheeses here are made from pasteurised milk so they're safe. I ate paneer through my whole pregnancy.
