My sugar test is coming up next week and im a little nervous. My sister got gestational diabetes in her pregnancy so it runs in family. Just wondering how common it really is and what it means for the baby.

Gestational diabetes is fairly common and I had it too. With the right diet and monitoring it stayed under control and my baby was fine. Just follow your doctor's plan closely and don't skip the sugar test.
If you've been told you have it, please don't panic. So many of us manage it well with food and walking. Your doctor will guide you and you'll be just fine.
My doctor said many women develop it temporarily during pregnancy due to hormones. They do a glucose test around the 24 to 28 week mark to check. It usually goes away after delivery.
I'd just add, the GTT test and follow up checks are routine so factor that into your plan. The diet changes are mostly home cooked stuff anyway, not expensive. Manageable na.
