My saas keeps adding methi in everything and says its very healthy for me. But I read somewhere it might not be safe in pregnancy so thoda confused now. Anyone know if its fine?
Personally, I stayed completely away from methi water or concentrated fenugreek supplements because I heard it can cause heat in the body. I only had normal methi ki sabji occasionally, but I never suggest what others should eat. Everyone's body reacts differently, so I just stuck to my comfort foods.
I am currently planning my pregnancy and was actually wondering about this too! I love methi parathas, so I was curious if we have to stop eating them completely once we conceive, or is it only a problem if we have too much?
In our family, elders say to avoid excessive fenugreek during pregnancy as it is considered 'hot' for the body. I trusted my doctor on this, who said normal culinary use in sambar or daily cooking is perfectly safe, but to avoid any herbal home remedies with it. Better to be safe!
When I was staying at my parents' house, my mom used to add just a little bit of methi seeds in the tadka for flavor, which was fine. But she always told me to avoid eating large amounts of fenugreek or drinking methi water during pregnancy. It's better to stick to simple, light home-cooked meals.
Actually, having a little methi in your daily food is totally fine, yaar, but don't go drinking methi water or having massive amounts of it. It can cause uterine contractions if taken in large therapeutic doses. Keep it simple and just eat normal ghar ka khana!
