Is it necessary to take iron tablets during pregnancy?
My hb is decent so far and the iron tablets give me so much nausea, i feel like skipping them. But doc keeps insisting. Is it really that important to take them daily?
It is absolutely essential, dear. I took my iron and calcium tablets religiously every single day, and it kept my Hb levels perfect, which really helped me during my normal delivery. Eat a citrus fruit with it for better absorption.
Please don't skip them. I was slightly careless with my iron tablets and ended up with very low hemoglobin, which made my post-C-section recovery extremely exhausting and slow. Taking them now will save you a lot of weakness later.
Yes, it is highly necessary because your blood volume increases by almost 50% during pregnancy. Low iron can lead to anemia, which makes delivery risky. If the standard tablet causes acidity, ask your doctor to change the brand.
Oh, absolutely! Unless you want to feel like a sleepy zombie all day. Pregnancy takes away all your iron to make the baby's blood, so you definitely need to refill the tank, even if the tablets taste like metal!
I know taking so many pills can make you feel super anxious, and sometimes the iron tablets make you constipated which adds to the worry. But they are incredibly important for you and the baby, so please don't skip them. Talk to your doctor if they make you feel sick.
