Is it necessary to take rubella vaccination before pregnancy?
Were planning to start trying in a few months and someone told me to get the rubella vaccine done first. I dont remember if i ever took it as a kid. Is it really necessary before conceiving? wanted to hear your experiences.
It's a sensible preconception step. The doctor first checks if you're already immune, and only vaccinates if needed. Best to get it done before pregnancy, not during, so plan a checkup.
Before planning, my gynac checked my rubella immunity with a blood test. She said if you're not immune, getting vaccinated before conceiving is important because rubella in pregnancy can harm the baby, and you wait a bit before trying after the shot. Definitely discuss this in a preconception visit.
I'm planning right now and my doctor asked me to do the rubella check first, glad I did. Turned out I was already immune. Such a useful thing to sort out before conceiving, thanks for raising it.
