Just found out im pregnant, around 5 weeks. Our bedroom is on first floor so i have to go up down many times daily. MIL is telling me to avoid stairs but i feel that's too much? Is it really risky in early days?
Honestly, as a working mom, stairs were unavoidable for me at the metro station. Unless you have spotting, bleeding, or your doctor has specifically advised bed rest, stairs are safe. Just hold the railing and take breaks.
I recently delivered and during my first trimester, I had to climb two flights of stairs daily at home. My doctor told me it's absolutely fine as long as I go very slowly and don't carry heavy bags. Just don't exert yourself.
Stairs are fine, but don't rush or run up and down. If your gynac has not mentioned any complication like low-lying placenta or bleeding, you can climb normally. Just be careful and watch your step.
I totally understand your fear, dear, we worry about every little step we take! If your pregnancy is smooth, climbing stairs gently is completely safe. Just listen to your body and rest if you feel tired.
In my early months, I used to climb stairs very slowly, taking one step at a time. It's actually a good light exercise, but please stop immediately if you feel dizzy or have any cramps. Always safety first for the baby.
Before my C-section, I climbed stairs throughout my pregnancy without issues. Just make sure you are not breathless. Go slow and hold the handrail for balance, it's totally manageable.
