I'm having a strong craving for Manchurian lately. My husband is worried if it's safe to eat it while pregnant due to all the sauces and spices. Can I have manchurian or should I avoid it completely?
Beta, outside food is not very good during these months because of stomach infections and MSG. If you really want to eat, make some clean vegetable manchurian at home with fresh ginger and garlic. Add some cumin water after eating if you feel bloated, it helps a lot.
Honestly, mere ghar pe to meri saas ne saaf mana kar diya tha bahar ka khane se because of ajinomoto. But I craved it so much, so she made home-made gobi manchurian for me without any tasting salt. It was so much better and safer too na!
Since I had PCOS, I was extra careful about blood sugar spikes, so I avoided maida items as much as possible. Manchurian has a lot of maida and deep-fried stuff, so maybe just have a bite or two to satisfy the craving. Better not to make it a regular habit, dear, just to be on the safer side.
See, occasionally eating a little bit is fine, but don't eat those cheap roadside chinese stalls at all. The MSG and dirty water they use can cause food poisoning, which you really don't want right now. Go to a good clean restaurant if you really must have it, okay?
I actually asked my nutritionist at Cloudnine about this during my trimester. She told me outside chinese food is a big no because of MSG and hygiene issues, but home-made is perfectly fine. You can also message your hospital's coordinator or dietician once to be absolutely sure.
Oh I had terrible cravings for spicy manchurian too! But my doc said to avoid outside junk because gas and indigestion can be really painful later, especially after C-section recovery where coughing also hurts. Trust me, try to eat fresh ghar ka food, you will thank yourself later.
