im a back sleeper my whole life and now im in 2nd trimester. everyone keeps telling me to sleep on my side but i just cant get comfy. is sleeping straight really a problem? anyone else struggle w this?
In early months sleeping straight on back is fine. As the bump grows, doctors usually suggest sleeping on your side, mostly left, as it is more comfortable and better for blood flow. So just shift to side later, no big deal.
Dont worry too much about this. In the beginning any comfortable position is okay. As your tummy grows, turn to your side, left is best they say. Keep a pillow under your knee, you will sleep better.
My gynac told me lying flat on the back becomes less comfortable in later pregnancy because the bump presses on a big blood vessel, so side sleeping especially left side is recommended then. Early on it doesnt matter much. A pillow between the knees really helps.
By now sleeping straight on my back is basically impossible anyway haha, the bump has its own plans. I sleep on my left with a pillow hugging me. Side sleeping is what they suggest later on, so just go with it.
