Is it safe to use lubricant while trying to conceive?
My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a few months now. Sometimes we use lubricant, but I'm wondering if it can affect our chances. Is it safe to use lubricant when trying to get pregnant?
Oh god, the 'trying' phase can get so dry and exhausting, I totally feel you! But normal lubes can actually slow down the little swimmers. Look for 'fertility-friendly' ones online, they don't harm the sperm and make things much easier!
Beta, regular lubricants are not very good when you are trying to baby plan because they stop the sperm from moving properly. Try to avoid chemical products. Drinking plenty of water and some warm milk with ghee can help naturally with dryness, but don't use saliva or oils down there.
Actually, many regular lubricants can affect sperm motility, which makes conceiving harder. When we were trying, my doctor at the hospital recommended using only specific fertility-safe lubricants. It is best to call your clinic and ask their team for a recommended brand name.
Regular lubes can prevent pregnancy because they are too thick for the sperm to swim through. A simple solution is to buy a 'sperm-friendly' or 'fertility-safe' lubricant from the pharmacy. They are not very expensive and work perfectly.
I know how clinical and stressful trying to conceive can become after a while, sending you a huge hug. Please avoid standard lubricants as they can act like a barrier for the sperm. There are wonderful, clinically tested fertility-friendly lubricants available that are safe to use, so you can try those instead.
