We have a function coming up and everyone expects me to wear saree but the petticoat string feels tight on my growing belly. Im 6 months now. Is tying it below the bump fine or should i just avoid saree?

Totally safe yaar, just tie the saree below your belly loosely and dont knot it too tight. I wore sarees till the end both times. Comfortable cotton ones are best.
Saree is honestly the maternity wear our grandmas already knew about, adjustable and forgiving. Just dont let anyone tie your petticoat like a corset. You will be fine and stylish.
