I love adding kasuri methi to my dishes for flavour, but now that I'm pregnant, I'm being careful about everything I eat. Is kasuri methi safe and good to consume during pregnancy?
Beta, putting a little kasuri methi in your sabzi or dal for flavor is totally fine and actually aids digestion. Just don't go eating too much of it daily as dry methi can be thoda hot for the body. Stick to moderate ghar ka khana and you will be fine.
I read a lot about this because I love north Indian food. My doctor told me that cooking with a pinch of kasuri methi is perfectly safe and won't harm the baby. But she warned against taking concentrated methi seeds or supplements, as that can sometimes cause uterine contractions.
In our home, we don't use kasuri methi much, but my MIL once suggested it for my digestion. I asked my doctor just to be sure, and she said regular kitchen spices are completely safe in normal cooking quantities. So don't worry, a little bit in your curry is absolutely fine.
Oh I ate paneer butter masala with lots of kasuri methi throughout my pregnancy and my baby boy is healthy! Honestly, as long as it's just for flavor in food, there is absolutely no issue. Just enjoy your food and don't stress.
During my pregnancy, I had to watch everything I ate due to high sugar levels. Methi is actually known to help with blood sugar, but dry kasuri methi in food is just for taste, so it won't impact much. Just make sure u keep track of your overall diet if u are monitoring your sugar.
I would suggest calling your gynac's clinic once before making any changes to your diet. Even though it's just a herb, everyone's body reacts differently during these nine months. Better to be safe than sorry, na?
