Its litchi season and im craving them badly, but someone told me too much litchi is not good when pregnant. Now i feel guilty after eating few. Is it fine in limit or should i avoid totally?
Actually, my doc said litchis are safe but they have a very high sugar content, which can spike your blood glucose levels. If you are prone to gestational diabetes, it is best to avoid them or eat them very sparingly.
According to my pregnancy food tracker app, litchis are rich in Vitamin C but have a high glycemic index. The app recommended limiting the portion size. It's safe as long as you don't eat a whole bowl of them in one go!
I'm no expert on what's medically recommended, but I ate a few fresh litchis during my second trimester and absolutely loved them. I just made sure not to eat too many at once because they are very sweet.
My MIL got very worried when I bought litchis, saying they cause internal heat. But my gynac said eating them in moderation is completely fine. I just stuck to eating 2-3 pieces a day to keep everyone happy!
Honestly, litchis are fine, just don't overeat them. If your blood sugar reports are normal, having a few seasonal fruits won't hurt at all. Just wash them properly and enjoy!
Litchi is perfectly fine to eat, beta, but don't have too many of them as they can increase body heat. Just enjoy 3 to 4 fresh ones occasionally when they are in season, and make sure they are washed well.
