I have an old scar and was using mederma on it before, but now that im pregnant i stopped just to be safe. Im 14 weeks. Is it actually okay to keep applying or better to avoid till delivery? pls share.
The skin specialist at my hospital advised me to hold off on medicated scar creams until after delivery. Always run the exact ingredients of Mederma by your dermatologist or gynac before applying it.
Personally, I didn't want to risk any chemicals, so I just used raw cocoa butter throughout my pregnancy. It worked well for my dry skin and felt very safe.
For my stretch marks, I preferred walking and staying hydrated, and my doctor suggested simple coconut oil. Ask your doctor if medicated creams are okay, and stick to light walks to stay healthy.
When you are expecting, you want to be 100% sure about everything. Please don't use any chemical or scar creams like Mederma without showing it to your gynecologist first.
The smell of medicated creams used to trigger my vomiting so badly! I stuck to scent-free bio-oil or simple mustard oil which was safe and didn't make me sick.
Those stretch marks are proof of the beautiful life you are creating, so don't stress too much about them right now. I used simple moisturizers during my pregnancy and only started active scar treatments post-delivery.
Since my skin was already sensitive due to PCOS hormonal changes, I didn't use medicated creams. Talk to your gynac once, they usually suggest safe pregnancy-specific stretch mark creams.
I prefer using homemade aloe vera gel or virgin coconut oil for stretch marks. If you really want to use Mederma, please show the tube to your doctor first to make sure it's safe.
