I have a terrible cold and really want to use some menthol rubs or lozenges for relief. But I'm pregnant and not sure if menthol is safe to use during this time. Can I use it?
I understand how annoying headaches or colds can be when u can't take normal medicines. I used to apply a tiny bit of menthol balm on my forehead for relief. Just don't overdo it, and cherish these days because they pass so quickly.
For minor headaches, a small amount of menthol balm or inhaling vapor is usually fine. I did that and had a completely normal, healthy delivery. Just try to avoid consuming anything with strong artificial menthol flavor.
Since I had a few complications early on, I became extremely cautious about everything, even herbal or menthol balms. Some strong essential oils can trigger contractions or skin reactions. It is always safest to ask your doctor before applying or inhaling anything.
Look, applying a little Vicks or balm on your forehead for a cold is totally fine. But don't go eating menthol candies or cough drops like regular sweets. When in doubt, just call your gynac instead of experimenting.
