Doctor suggested MRI for another health issue and I am only 8 weeks pregnant. I got scared hearing scan name, even though it is not xray. Has anyone had MRI in first trimester after doctor advice?
When I needed an MRI my doctor said plain MRI without contrast is mostly okay even early, but they avoid the contrast dye in pregnancy. She also asked me to confirm dates first. So it really depends why u need it, just be upfront with the radiologist.
Honestly I would also be nervous about any scan in early pregnancy. But MRI is not like X-ray, no radiation. If ur doctor is recommending it there must be a proper reason, dont skip a needed test out of fear.
Beta dont stress too much. MRI is one of the safer imaging options, the main thing is just to inform the staff clearly that you are pregnant and how many weeks. They will protect both of you.
From what I read, no radiation in MRI so risk is low, but first trimester is when baby is forming so they prefer to wait if it can be delayed. Best to let ur ob and the radiologist decide together.
MRI is generally considered safer than X-ray or CT because there's no radiation, but in first trimester docs usually avoid it unless really needed. Pls dont decide on ur own, tell ur gynac u are pregnant before any scan.
